Duties and Responsibilities
Management / Owner
Maintain an up-to-date risk register
Conduct regular vehicle and equipment safety checks
Ensure staff training and certifications (e.g., first aid, driver licensing)
Review and update this policy annually or following any incidents
Staff and Tour Guides
Follow all safety procedures and briefings
Report any hazards, incidents, or near misses promptly
Participate in health and safety training and drills
Stop work if they believe conditions are unsafe
Customers
Must follow safety instructions given during pre-tour briefings
Notify staff of any medical conditions or concerns before the tour
Wear appropriate clothing and footwear for the conditions
Key Safety Measures
•Daily Vehicle Inspections: Brakes, tyres, lights, and fluid levels checked before every tour
•Safety Briefings: Delivered before tour departure and before hazardous areas (e.g. steep tracks, cliffs)
•Emergency Equipment: First aid kits and communication devices are carried on every tour
•Weather Monitoring: Tours may be delayed or cancelled due to unsafe weather conditions
•Incident Reporting: All accidents and near misses recorded and reviewed
Emergency Procedures
Staff are trained in first aid and emergency response
In case of serious injury or incident, emergency services will be contacted immediately
Nearest evacuation routes and assembly points are identified in advance
A post-incident review will be conducted to improve future safety
Hazard Identification
A hazard register is maintained and reviewed monthly. Common risks include:
